Overview
The Latinx Voces Skills for Community Impact (SCI) Series is designed to strengthen workforce capacity across public health, healthcare, and community-based organizations.
As the second workshop in the 4-part Storytelling and Partnership Track, Designing Stories that Drive Action builds on foundational storytelling concepts and focuses on practical application.
Participants will engage in guided exercises to adapt stories for different audiences, integrate data effectively, and develop messaging aligned with specific goals such as funding, engagement, and advocacy.
This session emphasizes hands-on learning, helping participants move from understanding storytelling concepts to actively applying them within their work.
Workshop Objectives
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to:
- Adapt storytelling approaches for different audiences (community, partners, funders)
- Refine a narrative using a structured storytelling model
- Integrate data into storytelling to strengthen credibility
- Apply ethical storytelling principles in representing communities
- Develop targeted messaging aligned with a specific goal (e.g., funding, engagement, advocacy)

SCI Series Overview & Certification Pathway
The Skills for Community Impact (SCI) Series is a professional training program developed by Latinx Voces to strengthen leadership, partnerships, and community engagement in community health initiatives.
The series provides practical training opportunities for professionals working in public health, healthcare, nonprofit organizations, and community-based initiatives.
Workshops emphasize hands-on learning, real-world applications, and tools participants can use immediately in their work.
Each session includes:
- guided exercises and interactive learning
- practical frameworks and templates
- resource guides and implementation strategies
- professional development hours
Participants who complete multiple SCI Series trainings may earn the:
Latinx Voces Certificate in Community Health Leadership
To earn the certificate, participants must complete four SCI Series sessions, including:
- 2 Leadership & Systems Workshops
- 2 Community Health Practice Workshops
Total training hours typically range from 8–12 hours.
The certificate recognizes professional training in competencies such as:
- strategic storytelling for community health
- partnership and coalition development
- community engagement strategies
- collaborative leadership in community health initiatives
Trainings are developed and facilitated by a Certified in Public Health (CPH) professional.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating the number of training hours completed.
This workshop will provide non-DSHS Community Health Worker (CHW) continuing education hours.
This training may also qualify for continuing education credit for individuals holding the Certified in Public Health (CPH) credential through the National Board of Public Health Examiners. Participants may submit their certificate of completion for CPH recertification credit.
Social work continuing education hours are being pursued where applicable.This workshop is developed and facilitated by a Certified in Public Health (CPH) professional with experience in community health partnerships, research, and public health practice.
Registration fees help support Latinx Voces’ community health education programs, workforce development initiatives, and the continued growth of the SCI Series professional training program.
