What if a summit- could be more than JUST a conference?
From the beginning, that question has been part of our vision for the VOCES Health Summit 2026: Bridging Health & Culture. Because for us, Bridging Health and Culture is much more than just a tagline – it is the work.
We don’t want to create a space where we come together, listen to presentations, exchange a few business cards, and then go home to our normal routines.
We want to create a space where community meets strategy.
Where health meets culture.
Where research meets lived experience.
And where people working in completely different sectors discover that they may actually be part of the same solution.
We want this summit to be the foundation for creative and innovative thinking, solutions, and collaborations – a time and place where we come to discover new ways to serve the community and to serve each other.
Because many of the challenges facing our communities are too complex and multifaceted for any one organization, profession, sector, or program to solve alone.
And sometimes… collaboration begins much more simply than we think.
Maybe it begins with a conversation around un cafecito, or a similar question at a workshop, or running into each other at a Poster session. An introduction between two people that needed to meet.
One of our most exciting examples of this is in our relationship with the City of Brownsville Department of Health, Wellness, and Animal Services (DHWAS). Last year’s Summit opened the door to ongoing opportunities to support each other’s work, think more creatively about collaboration, and build trust beyond a single event. What began as a connection has grown into deeper partnership, new conversations, and unexpected opportunities to work together
Last year’s Summit reminds us that the real measure of success for an event- is not only what happens during the event, but what happens afterward.
That is the intention we are building toward – and hoping for – in this year’s 2026 summit.
This can be the foundation for creative thinking, innovative solutions, and unique collaborations that will extend well beyond October 23rd – a place to discover new ways to serve, to partner, and to support each other.
Because the goal is not simply to leave inspired.
The goal is to leave connected enough to do something with that inspiration.
Maybe an idea that starts in Brownsville becomes something that can impact the nation.
So… perhaps the better question isn’t only:
What if this Summit could be more than just your typical conference?
It is:
What could happen after the Summit because we were all there?
Only one way to find out!
We’ll see you in Brownsville.
