We hear powerful stories every day- but we’re not always given clear ways to turn those stories into action.
This interactive workshop focuses on applying storytelling strategies to drive engagement, funding, and action across community health initiatives. Participants will actively work through adapting stories for different audiences and aligning messaging with clear goals.
Overview
The Latinx Voces Skills for Community Impact (SCI) Series is designed to strengthen workforce capacity across public health, healthcare, and community-based organizations.
As the second workshop in the 4-part Storytelling and Partnership Track, Designing Stories that Drive Action builds on foundational storytelling concepts and focuses on practical application.
Participants will engage in guided exercises to adapt stories for different audiences, integrate data effectively, and develop messaging aligned with specific goals such as funding, engagement, and advocacy.
This session emphasizes hands-on learning, helping participants move from understanding storytelling concepts to actively applying them within their work.
Workshop Objectives
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to:
- Adapt storytelling approaches for different audiences (community, partners, funders)
- Refine a narrative using a structured storytelling model
- Integrate data into storytelling to strengthen credibility
- Apply ethical storytelling principles in representing communities
- Develop targeted messaging aligned with a specific goal (e.g., funding, engagement, advocacy)
Why does this Workshop matter?
In community work, education, business, and beyond, we hear powerful stories every day.
But we’re not always given clear ways to translate those stories into something that drives action- whether that’s engaging communities, aligning partners, or communicating impact to stakeholders.
This workshop focuses on how to move from hearing stories → using them strategically.
Together, we’ll walk through a real example step-by-step and show you how to:
- adapt a story for different audiences
- strengthen it with data
- align it with a clear goal (engagement, partnerships, funding, or action)
You’ll also have the opportunity to bring your own work into the session and leave with a clear, practical starting point you can apply right away.
